CPPM announced the programme for autumn season

06.10.2023 13:57

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre's Master's programme in Contemporary Physical Performance Making (CPPM) has announced the programme of events for the autumn season 2023. The programme will include six open classes led by performing artists from around the world.

The programme for the autumn season will open on October 13th with an open class for the master students with Juan Dominguez. Juan Dominguez is a conceptual clown, magical cowboy, model-poet, untied narrator and curator of pleasure. As a maker and organizer within the fields of choreography and performing arts his work explores the relationship between different codes and advocates the complete dissolution between fiction and reality, using the former to produce the latter and vice versa.

The open class on October 21st will be led by Mirko Rajas and Taavi Tõnisson from the Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences, who will give a masterclass on object and puppet to CPPM students. The main aim of the object masterclass is to guide students to think more figuratively, to see the possibilities of play and meaning-making through physical objects. The Puppet Masterclass aims to open up a 'channel' of puppet thinking in the performer in a short period of time, and in doing so, help them to acquire basic puppet animation techniques.

The third open class of the season will take place on November 3rd, instructed by Jasmin Vardimon Company. Renowned for her uniquely theatrical choreographic and directorial style combining physical theatre, quirky characterisation, innovative technologies, text and dance, Vardimon accentuates her work with an acute observation of human behaviour.

On November 25th, you will be able to take part in CPPM's open class with director and choreographer Sasha Pepelyaev. Pepelyaev's workshop will be focused on building a structure of visual-physical performance and methods, which can be used. This will include initial concept, rough realisation, verification, modifications, analysis of available tools for those tasks, search for influences, affecting phases and patterns of the whole process.

On December 2nd, the open class will be led by the Estonian-Dutch-German company Young Boy Dancing Group. Young Boy Dancing Group workshop consists of choreographic instructions with a clear and substantial goal; to be part of a group, to dance together, to embody feelings, to explore a sense of safety in stillness with one another and to produce collective highs. Rather than a series of exercises, the workshop is offered to the participant as an intimate journey with a punk attitude towards modern dance and the possibility to allow ourselves to use vulnerability to dive deep into raw emotions.

The final open hour of the autumn season will take place on December 9th and will be led by artist Stacy Makishi. Makishi's physical workshop Killing Time welcomes anyone who is curious about live art and performance. One must have a willingness to try out new ideas and an adventurous spirit to walk out into the unknown.
