Tartu New Theatre is touring in Hungary this week with Renate Keerd’s production LOOD to represent Tartu in the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 program of the European Capital of Culture

LOOD is performed in the European Capital of Culture’s InterUrban programme, where 25 European cities have the opportunity to introduce their most exciting and unique productions and artists. Tartu, which is known to hold the title of the European Capital of Culture 2024, is represented in addition to Tartu New Theatre by Silver Sepp and Kristiina Ehin, Mari Kalkun, Curly Strings and a documentary “The Gardener Of Tension Fields”.

Renate Keerd’s LOOD is a performance that urges you to unleash your inner creature and send it on a tour into the wilder corner of the room. In Estonian LOOD is a play on words meaning either stories/tales or a spirit level. LOOD is performed by Elise Metsanurk, Ekke Hekles, Andreas Aadel and Martin Kork from Tartu New Theatre and Jan Ehrenberg as a guest from Tallinn City Theatre.

LOOD premiered in Tartu New Theatre in the fall of 2021. The performance has received positive feedback from both critics as well as the jury of Estonian Annual Theatre Awards (nominations for best director and best supporting male character). The performance was selected to be part of the draamamaa weekend programme, where it turned the heads of foreign curators and producers. At the end of 2022 LOOD managed to tour outside Estonia reaching the audience of Riga.

The performance takes place on November 4th, 2023 at 19:00 at the stage of ActiCity in Veszprém. LOOD performance in Hungary is supported by the City of Tartu.
