The Polish committee for Eurodram suggests reading, translating and distributing of On the Periphery by the Estonian author Urmas Lennuk.
Each year, the member committees of the international theatre translation network Eurodram publish recommendations for the reading, translation and distribution of three new plays. In odd-numbered years they recommend plays in their own language, and translated plays in even-numbered years (as in 2025).
Last week, it therefore emerged that the Polish committee has now recommended, among other things, to read, translate and distribute the play On the periphery by the Estonian playwright and stage director Urmas Lennuk. The play is a story about the last few people in a distant village, who have been forgotten to live on the edge of the world. One day it dawns on them that, just as their country doesn't need them, they don't really even notice each other any more. What happens to the people who become invisible?
Lennuk's On the periphery won the Estonian national theatre award for original dramaturgy in 2024.
