Netti Nüganen to perform The Myth: last day at the Tanzquartier Wien

12.01.2024 12:59

The Estonian performing artist Netti Nüganen has been invited to the Tanzquartier Wien with The Myth: last day, co-produced by Kanuti Gildi SAAL. The performances are scheduled to take place on January 19th and 20th, 2024 at the TQW Studios.

The Myth: last day is centred around a prefabricated archaeological mine, where a pseudo-archaeologist digs objects from the ground. It intertwines reality and fiction and creates myths, thereby constructing speculative pasts and futures. The show’s second part is a black-metal-inspired doomsday concert, where the researcher becomes a chaotic punk-metalhead. It animates the ruins, explores reasons to project towards the future and stay on the surface.

The Myth: last day won the prize for the best Estonian performing arts production in 2022.

Netti Nüganen uses the performative moment to format the ways of storytelling with the aim of challenging existing structures and habits. As a doomer, she seeks ways to (re)establish connections with the past, enabling an intentional look upon the present and extending the perspective towards the future. She is experimental in her approach to genres, placing her works on the border of performance, concert, and theatre. Nüganen attained her BA in choreography at the Amsterdam School for New Dance Development (SNDO). Her video and stage works have been shown at My Wild Flag Festival, Bâtard Festival, Tartu Art Museum, KIM? gallery, Kanuti Gildi SAAL, Uferstudios, Lisbon Film Festival, Sequences Festival and more. Next to that, she has been touring since 2017 with Florentina Holzinger’s performances ApollonTanz, and Ophelia’s Got Talent.
