Vaba Lava is a unique theatre and performing arts' centre. We create international theatre projects every day where we include creative people from Estonia and abroad.

We are a theatre that does not have a permanent creative team – for each new production, a new troupe is formed, offering job opportunities to freelance actors and artists above all. The peculiarity of our theatre are the two-year thematic curator programmes that are led by guest curators from abroad.

In the years 2023/2025, the curator of Vaba Lava is a young Polish director Jakub Skrzywanek (b 1992) whose curator programme I have a dream inspires the society to dream about new future visions. The curator hopes that for a moment, people leave fighting with their fears aside and dare to discuss (and dream!) about what they really want.

Previously, Vaba Lava’s curators have been Madis Kolk (EST) and Oleg Lojevski (RUS), Madli Pesti (EST) and Thomas Frank (AU), José Alfarroba and Tristan Barani (FRA), Marius Ivaškevičius (LT) and Harald T. Rosenstrøm (NOR).

SA (Foundation) Vaba Lava was founded in 2010, in 2014-2022 the Vaba Lava theatre centre operated in Telliskivi Creative City in Tallinn, and since 2018 Vaba Lava has a theatre house in Narva. In addition to giving performances in various Estonian counties, Vaba Lava is characterized by travelling and giving guest performances outside of Estonia.
