The Estonian performing arts centre Vaba Lava is participating in the Teatro a Mil 2025 theatre festival in Chile with the Estonian-Ukrainian collaborative production "Choose a Better Version". The production will be performed in three evenings from January 10th to 12th, 2025.
Now in its 32nd year, Teatro a Mil is an international theatre festival that brings together theatre lovers from all over the world in Santiago. The production "Choose a Better Version" has been invited to show South American audiences what is happening in Ukraine. Before the first performance, there will be a panel discussion and workshop to discuss theatre as a form of therapy, and the Ukrainian actors in the production will also speak to explain how the war has changed their daily lives.
In addition, Vaba Lava producer Katarina Tomps will introduce the Freedom Festival (Vabaduse Festival) to the local audience. "The changing world order and the cracks in the model of a democratic society is one of the most important issues of our time. The rise of totalitarian powers, wars and tensions in Ukraine, the Middle East and Asia affect us all. The meaning of freedom is particularly topical at this moment in time, reflecting the turbulent events around us," writes Vaba Lava.
