Glorious Epic is a bold and evocative dance performance by Sofia Mavragani, problematizing the tension between the heroic and the vulnerable. Through a poetic allegory, the work examines the death of the old heroes and the decline of the protagonist symbolizing the transition from power to fragility, from victory to loss. At the heart of this performance is the dynamic interplay between two bodies, forming a relationship that explores viscerally the strength in collectivity.

In Glorious Epic, the dancers grapple with their passions, desires and thoughts—forces that both connect and tear them apart. Their movements shift seamlessly between conflict and collaboration, as they blend their individual worlds into a turbulent collective. In their struggle, they transform personal tragedy into moments of shared beauty, finding glory in the most unexpected of places

The performance is a stormy kinetic narrative that challenges the conventional norms and hierarchical structures often imposed on human interaction. It confronts the idea of heroism, revealing the delicate and epic beauty that resides in the overlooked and the small. Through intense physicality, powerful imagery, and emotional depth, Glorious Epic is an acknowledgment of the glory found in vulnerability, in relationality and in the often unnoticed details of life.

Sofia Mavragani is a Greek choreographer and dancer whose work often engages with socio-political themes. Her performances have been presented at major festivals and venues internationally, including the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall, documenta 14, Kalamata International Dance Festival, Dimitria Festival (Thessaloniki), MIRfestival (Athens), State Theatre of Northern Greece, Park Your ID Festival (Maastricht), Dance Days International Festival (Chania). She develops experimental educational projects focused on improvisation and composition, including the playforPLACE research project, which has been presented in 17 cities across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Oceania. She also created BREAKING ART, an annual workshop at Megaron bringing together young choreographers and composers, and teaches dance improvisation and choreography internationally.
