The novel "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha" by Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was published in the early 17th century and tells the story of a knight-idealist who has created a fantasy world completely detached from reality. For Quixote, values such as honor, goodness, chivalry, and bravery are of utmost importance. The book is considered one of the greatest literary works of all time.

The ballet based on the novel, with choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Austrian composer Ludwig Minkus, premiered in 1869. It is one of the most famous classical ballets of its genre, offering audiences virtuoso dancing, beautiful music, and the lively spirit of Spanish joy.
