As a collaborative production between the Classical Voice and Audiovisual Creation departments of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera The Medium, which premiered in 1946, will be brought to the stage. The production masterfully blends music and video art, creating a visually captivating theatrical experience.

At the center of the opera is Madame Flora, a fraudulent medium whose supposed spiritual powers are, in truth, a deception. These lies gradually lead her into a deepening internal chaos. One evening, she senses a mysterious and terrifying force, triggering a paranoid descent filled with fear, doubt, alcoholism, and violence.

The Medium is a suspenseful and haunting opera whose intense and mysterious music delves deeply into the complex inner lives of its characters. For the first time on the EAMT stage, video art is not merely a scenic addition but an integral part of the storytelling, offering the audience a unique operatic experience.

The opera is part of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s sound, visual, and music technology festival COMMUTE#7, taking place from May 8–16, 2025.

The performance is in one act and lasts approximately one hour.
