The play “Old Mother Kunks" is based on Aino Pervik's books about a kind-hearted witch who lives on a tiny island in the middle of the sea. There are sharp rocks and underwater secrets around the island. A pine tree with long curved branches grows in the middle of the island. The house of Old Mother Kunks is built between the branches of this pine tree. And so that the winds don't sweep the living out to sea, the house is anchored with stone blocks and a large old-fashioned anchor. The eaves of the house are full of bunches of grasses, mushrooms, sponges and mosses that dry there. To brew his herbs, Old Mother Kunks collects plants from mainland, forests, swamps and bogs. She rides across the sea in a big yellow balloon, which looks like a full moon when flying high in the sky. She's got all the wisdom in the world, but she's also like a little girl who likes to fly around with a balloon on windy nights and sing lullabies. One stormy night, Old Mother Kunks finds a ship that ran aground and a sailor Captain Trumm from the waves, whom the moor saves from death and heals.
