The evening of young choreographers "Dreams. Dinner" consists of two performances by young dance artists.
"Dreams"
Director, author of texts, choreographer and performer Samuel Koppel
Lighting desinger Ants Kurist
Samuel Koppel's "Dreams" is a solo performance inspired by the author's real dreams. Samuel started keeping a dream diary and he noticed that formulating and retelling the world of dreams can be a meaningfully challenging and wonderful activity that resonated with all listeners. Then he had the idea to explore the theme of dreams in the form of a dance performance. The performance is based on the connections between the subconscious and the conscious, the mixing of spirituality and dreams, and the need to conceptualize the entire process, according to the founder of analytical psychology, C. G. Jung. According to Jung, the subconscious side of events in dreams is not revealed as rational thought, but as symbolic images.
"Dreams" explores the connection between superficial chaos and the emotional logic of dreams. It is a dance production in which text, choreography, physical theatre and singing (voice as sound design) play an important role.
Samuel Koppel has completed the choreography curriculum of Tallinn University and studied acting at the Arts University Bournemouth in England. Today he is also establishing himself in theatre projects in Europe. This season, Samuel has participated as a dancer in two Fine5 Dance Theatre productions ("THE Family", "Vahtra hääl and Üllas Kuu").
"Dinner"
Choreographer-directors, sound designers, and dancers Annachiara Gallo, Vanessa Geniali, Chiara Fiore
Music by Ibrahim Maalouf, Julia de Castro, Ben Frost, Kronos Quartet, Nina Simone
Lighting designer Ants Kurist
The authors and performers of "Dinner" Annachiara Gallo, Vanessa Geniali, and Chiara Fiore are dancers of the 2024-25 season of Fine5 Dance Theatre. They have graduated from the Roma Vivo Center (Italy) contemporary dance programm.
The focus of the "Dinner" is on three women at the dinner table - this is a seemingly ordinary situation in which there is nothing extraordinary. However, through the illusion of ordinaryness, the viewer's gaze is directed to an alternative social mirror, allowing us to notice the dynamics of relationships and the effort to peacefully coexist without losing identity and empathy. This work raises questions about how can individuality and empathy exist without destroying each other? How to balance the fragile human ego and its needs with the speed and pressure of societal standards?
The artists were inspired by Carrie Mae Weems' famous photo series The Kitchen Table Series, in which the author explores the power of black women through domestic routines, relationship dynamics, and the struggles of everyday life. In all series, the kitchen and table play a central role, as if it were a turning point in the emotional and practical lives of the tenants.
Performance evening length in total: 1h 20min
