Urmas Vadi is a writer, playwright, screenwriter, director, and radio journalist. He studied radio directing at Tallinn Pedagogical University and began his fiction career with the award-winning play You Will See If You Want to Steal My Bears! (1999).

Vadi’s writing blends the absurd and the everyday with warmth, humour, and poetic playfulness. His dreamlike theatrical worlds feature both real and imaginary characters, moving freely between life, death, and fantasy. He believes that a play is only complete when it is performed – his writing always considers the stage. Vadi is known for his unique voice in Estonian literature and theatre, where emotional truth and surreal storytelling coexist with effortless wit.
