Playwrights

Urmas Lennuk is a director, dramaturg, and playwright. He studied Estonian language and literature at Tallinn Pedagogical University and in 2000 graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with a degree in directing. Since then, he has mainly worked at Rakvere Theatre, initially as a director and later as a dramaturg. In his plays, Lennuk often reimagines the classics or writes about everyday lives in small towns with warmth, humor, and quiet melancholy. His works often emerge from lived experience, layered with personal reflection. Lennuk sees writing as a way to preserve people and memories. He considers playwriting a small act of protest against the things he would like to change in life but cannot. In addition to stage plays, Lennuk has also written for television and film as well.
