is a distinguished Estonian prose writer, poet, and translator known for evocative storytelling and a nuanced literary voice. She studied dramaturgy at the Theatre Academy of Helsinki (1991–1997), earning a master’s degree, and later specialised in literary translation and editing at Tallinn University.

Aareleid’s writing is marked by lyrical prose, emotional depth, and exploration of human relationships and memory. Her work often blurs the boundaries between prose and poetry, reflecting a keen sensitivity to language and form. Besides her original works, she has translated a broad range of international literature into Estonian, including Jorge Luis Borges, David Mamet, Bruce Chatwin, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Javier Marías, and Isabel Allende, bringing global voices closer to Estonian readers. She has also made major contributions to Estonian theatre translation, including plays by Elli Salo, Juha Jokela, and Laura Mattila.
