Playwrights

Jim Ashilevi is a writer and director. He graduated in Audiovisual Media from Tallinn University, and in Acting from the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. From 2013 to 2015, he was a playwright and actor at Von Krahl Theatre; since then, he has worked as a freelance creator. Ashilevi has written plays, scripts, articles, prose, and even computer games. He has worked in film and hosted cinema-related radio, and TV shows, and was involved in the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. He wrote his first play, Like Boys in the Rain, at the age of 20. It won 2nd prize at the Estonian Theatre Agency’s New Drama Competition in 2005, making him the youngest prizewinner. His second play, Porcelain Smoke (2006), explores identity, social criticism, and generational fragility.
