Playwrights

Hugo Raudsepp was a freelance writer and critic. Between 1907 and 1908 he edited the newspaper Sõna in Valga, between 1908 and 1911 he worked for Postimees in Tartu and Pärnu, and then from 1911 to 1914 he worked as a columnist for the newspaper Päevaleht. In 1914 he edited the Tallinna Kaja newspaper, in 1914-1917 the Sakala newspaper, in 1920-1924 he was literary and theatre critic of Vaba Maa. He was one of the most prominent and prolific playwrights between 1920 and 1930, having written 30 plays. His works are characterised by social satire and irony. His plays are often grotesque situation comedies, in which he deftly dissects the problems of the present day and the vices of ordinary people.
